It is, understandably, not to everyone's taste.
Good points: large crowd, lots of leather, abundant drinks, loud music

Those are things I like outside of fandom, so naturally when I can enjoy them and also things that only fandom offers in abundance (writers, readers, scientists, swordfights) I am especially happy.
Also, Baycon attracts a more diverse membership than some corners of fandom, so it's a comfortable place for one who gives off something of an urban vibe. This fan who even other fans find weird is happy to have a place to be part of things.
